Video Shows Syria Clash From Two Angles By: The New York Times

By ROBERT MACKEY

As unrest reportedly continued in Syria on Tuesday, dramatic video posted on YouTube appeared to show an attack on protesters in the southern city of Dara’a on Friday, during clashes that left at least 21 people dead.

According to Mohammad Al Abdallah, a Syrian exile based in Washington, this brief, blurry clip, which was posted online on Tuesday, shows “security forces executing a wounded protester in Dara’a last Friday.”

While restrictions on independent reporting in Syria make it impossible to verify exactly when or where that video was filmed, another YouTube clip, which appears to show exactly the same scene, was posted online one day earlier.

This street-level video appears to have been filmed at roughly the same time and in the same place as the previous clip, and shows the body of a badly wounded or dead protester being dragged past the camera:

The water tower to the right in both clips looks identical, as does the position of the white car on the street and the building at the end of the block.

If any readers are familiar with Dara’a and might recognize this street, please let us know in the comment thread below.

Another Washington-based Syrian activist, Ammar Abdulhamid, wrote on hisTharwacolamus Twitter feed on Tuesday that this undated video shows armed members of the security forces on the streets of Dara’a in recent days:

This video is said to have been filmed in Dara’a on Tuesday, as protesters destroyed a bust of Hafez al-Assad, the former president whose son, Bashar, now rules Syria:

On Tuesday, rights activists in Syria told Reuters that the security forces stormed the town of Baida, near the port city of Baniyas, where four protesters were reportedly killed on Sunday.

A witness in Baida said told Al Jazeera that at least one person was injured on Tuesday when the security forces opened fire there, in an operation apparently spurred by the participation of Baida residents in a protest in Baniyas over the weekend. On Saturday, Reuters reported, protesters in Baniyas “carried empty white coffins in sympathy with an estimated 200 people killed in pro-democracy protests in Syria.”

This video of a protest was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday by an activist who said that it was filmed in Jablah, a coastal town just north of Baniyas:

This video is said to have been filmed during a protest in support of the people of Baniyas in Hauran, the southern province where Dara’a is located:

This video is said to show a new demonstration on Tuesday night in Dara’a:
